The present situation and the future of dry oak forest zone in Pakistan

A. R. Beg and Mirza Hakim Khan

ABSTRACT

The extending observations made on vegetation in Swat valley and on climate in Drosh, both lying in the dry oak forest zone, to other parts of Pakistan, actual biogeograhical limits of the zone were determined. Dry oak forests were found to indicate Mediterranean climate as elsewhere in the world. They, however, comprise of two sub-types in this country: the pure dry oak forests with true Mediterranean climate and the dry oak-chir ecotonal forests with transitional Mediterranean climate. Four plant communities have also been described in the zone.
