Abstract:
The Astore Markhor (Capra falconeri falconeri) which is known as
bomlocally, is the most important game animal of Gilgit Agency and Northern Area. It belongs to genus Capra, family Bovidae and sub-order Artiodactyla. The word Markhor is derived from the two Persian words
Marmeans snake and
Khormeans eater the snake eater. The legend is that Markhor eats snake which is killed by the powerful strokes of its hoofs.
