ABSTRACT

The red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus day one is a guest, second a burden, and third a pest, regarded as the most devastating, and notorious species of Phoenix dactylifera. This research study was conducted under (25±5oC) and (30±5oC) controlled temperatures in the laboratory during 2023, to examine the biological parameters of RPW. At fixed temperature conditions, the maximum eggs laid by female (185.45±17.74), fertility (138.60±13.87), egg incubation period (5.70±1.39), 1st to 5th larvae stages (11.78±1.60), (16.58±2.81), (18.20±2.73), (21.48±2.81), (22.54±3.32), pupae (21.56±4.70), male and female sex ratio (1:4♂, 1:8♀), adult male (34.25±5.50), female (41.27±5.40) longevity was recorded on (25±5oC). Whereas, the RPW laid maximum mean eggs at (157.33±12.72), fertility (103.56±9.68), egg incubation (9.40±1.97), 1st stage larvae (15.84±2.71), 2nd (18.80±2.91), 3rd (21.00±3.20), 4th (25.00±4.90), 5th (26.00±4.64), pupae (27.28±5.42), sex ratio, (1:2♂, 1:4♀), longevity (43.70±5.92) in male and (49.38±6.38) female adults, were recorded at (30±5oC), respectively. All developmental stages of the insect pest were replicated three times for authenticity. The significant difference was recorded at (P< 0.05). Therefore, to understand the biological fitness parameters, two distinctive temperatures were assessed to manage the biology of this noxious pest. The future advanced holistic IPM approaches and sustainable practices will be vital to mitigating the risk of this vigorous pest.
